Sanitary Tri-Clamp® Gaskets
Rubber Fab Offers a Range of Tri-Clamp® Gaskets
Sanitary Tri-Clamp® Gaskets are used in the Food, Dairy, Beverage, Biotech, Pharmaceutical, and many other Sanitary Process industries to seal clamp connections in sanitary pipe lines. The name Tri-Clamp® gasket comes from the Tri-Clover clamp which is used to hold a gasket in place. We offer a variety of elastomers and sizes in our standard sanitary Tri-Clamp® gaskets, including options commonly referred to as tri clamp gaskets. Our portfolio covers general service, high purity, and high performance materials such as the PTFE tri clamp gasket and the tri clamp silicone gasket to meet demanding applications.
Benefits of A Perfect Hygienic Seal
- Lower bacteria count
- Maintains/enhances product integrity
- Ensures that gasket I.D. matches pipe I.D.
- Conforms to CGMP
- Complies with USDA and 3-A Sanitary Standards
Application Guidance and FAQs
Best gasket materials for high pressure and temperature applications
For elevated temperature and pressure, Sanitary Tri-Clamp Gaskets made from PTFE and filled PTFE are typically recommended due to their broad chemical resistance, low creep, and stability at higher temperatures. An envelope seal Type III PTFE gasket with fillers is ideal where permeation resistance and mechanical strength are required in tri clamp gaskets. In addition, certain high-performance elastomers (such as FKM) can serve well under moderate high-temperature conditions, but PTFE tri clamp gasket constructions remain the preferred choice for sustained high heat and pressure cycling. For steam-in-place or aggressive CIP/SIP regimes, the PTFE tri clamp gasket and other engineered fluoropolymer designs offer reliable sealing performance without compromising sanitary standards.
Synthetic or animal-origin materials used in sanitary tri-clamp gaskets
Sanitary Tri-Clamp Gaskets are primarily made from synthetic materials, including silicone, EPDM, PTFE, and FKM, which are selected for purity and compliance. The tri clamp silicone gasket is a common synthetic option used for flexibility and resilience in a wide range of sanitary processes. Historically, some gasket materials could include animal-origin components (for example, certain natural rubbers or compounds that may contain stearates of animal origin), but modern sanitary specifications generally favor fully synthetic formulations to minimize allergen and contamination risks. When animal-origin considerations arise, documentation is available to verify material sources, and Sanitary Tri-Clamp Gaskets are offered in formulations that avoid animal-derived ingredients to support regulatory and customer requirements.
Recommended gasket compression and installation guidelines to prevent leaks
To prevent leaks, follow proper installation and compression practices for tri clamp gaskets. Ensure the gasket I.D. matches the pipe I.D. and inspect ferrule faces for scratches or deformation. Seat the gasket evenly and center it before applying the clamp. Tighten the clamp uniformly to achieve controlled compression—enough to create a seal without over-compressing, which can cause extrusion or premature wear. For a ptfe tri clamp gasket, avoid excessive clamp torque since PTFE is less elastic; tighten gradually and recheck after thermal cycling. For a tri clamp silicone gasket and other elastomers, apply consistent clamp pressure and verify that the gasket is not pinched or misaligned. Always use compatible lubricants (if allowed by process) and replace gaskets that show signs of damage, swelling, or chemical attack. Routine torque verification and visual inspection during maintenance help ensure Sanitary Tri-Clamp Gaskets remain leak-free.
