If elimination of particulates is critical to CGMP in your injectable filled product, chromatography columns, upstream particulate removal, downstream filtration, consider Rubber Fab’s Fluid Conditioning technology, the Tri-Clamp® Screen Gasket. These Tri-Clamp screen gaskets are engineered for reliable, repeatable particulate control in sanitary process lines across pharmaceutical, biotech, food, dairy, beverage, and other regulated environments.
Rubber Fab’s screen gaskets are designed to be interchangeable with standard sanitary Tri-Clamp® gaskets and are available in the USP Class VI elastomer of your choice, in a variety of mesh sizes, 21 micron through 4 mesh. Range of Particulate Elimination
Fluid conditioning sanitary screen gaskets provide the most comprehensive range of stainless-steel mesh and filter cloth for particulate elimination to protect fill-and-finish sterile products. Our Tri-Clamp mesh gaskets and Tri-Clamp filter gasket options are available in multiple micron ratings to suit fine clarification through coarse straining needs. These sanitary screen gaskets help particulates before they reach sensitive downstream equipment.
Sock Designs
Sock designs are inserted into the I.D. of your stainless-steel tubing and provide filtration with greater soil retention and extended surface area. These Tri-Clamp mesh gaskets in sock form are ideal where higher load capacity and longer run times are required without frequent break-in of the process line.
Perforated Plate Gaskets
Rubber Fab also offers a full line of perforated hole plate gaskets for large particle filtration. These can be used alongside Tri-Clamp screen gaskets to stage filtration, protecting pumps, valves, and meters from macro particulates before fine screening.
Removable Disks
We can provide gaskets that allow you to remove your screen disk, accept an orifice plate disk, a perforated plate, or change to another elastomer of your choosing. This modularity enables quick swap-outs of Tri-Clamp filter gasket components for different batches, viscosities, or CIP regimes.
Available Materials and Benefits
- EPDM: Excellent steam and CIP/SIP resistance, strong performance with caustics; ideal for repeated thermal cycling in sanitary screen gaskets and Tri-Clamp mesh gaskets.
- Buna (NBR): Cost-effective general-purpose sealing for oils and some food applications; note Buna does not meet USP Class VI and is not ADI Free, so suitability depends on industry and validation needs.
- FKM: Broad chemical resistance and high-temperature capability; great for solvents and aggressive media in Tri-Clamp screen gaskets.
- Silicone: Flexible at low temperatures, good for high-purity applications; widely used in pharmaceutical processes for Tri-Clamp filter gasket sealing where elasticity is key.
- Tuf-Steel®: Exceptional thermal stability and dimensional integrity for high-heat and steam service; reduces cold flow in sanitary screen gaskets.
- Detectomer® Metal Detectable/X-rayable: Enhances foreign material control; fragments can be detected by inline detection systems for added HACCP compliance in food and beverage lines.
Maintenance and Replacement Guidance
To maintain performance and compliance, inspect Tri-Clamp screen gaskets and Tri-Clamp mesh gaskets at every disassembly. Replace immediately if there is tearing, fraying, ovalization, channeling, or mesh deformation. As a general schedule:
- Pharmaceutical/biotech: Replace sanitary screen gaskets at each batch or validated cleaning cycle, or within a defined number of SIP/CIP cycles per validation (often 10–20 SIP cycles for elastomers; verify in your PQ).
- Food, dairy, beverage: Replace Tri-Clamp filter gasket assemblies on a preventive basis (e.g., monthly or quarterly) depending on CIP frequency, temperature, and mechanical stress; sooner if differential pressure rises or flow drops.
- Aggressive chemicals/solvents: Shorten intervals for FKM or compatible materials; monitor swelling and compression set.
Always follow Good Documentation Practices, torque per ASME-BPE recommendations, and verify integrity after CIP/SIP. Store gaskets in a cool, dry, dark environment and segregate materials to prevent cross-contamination. Keep spare Tri-Clamp screen gaskets and Tri-Clamp mesh gaskets on hand to minimize downtime.
